Amarillo Airport Commission delays manager decision

Amarillo city officials paused any binding management plan for the new airport after a meeting of the airport commission. They drafted recommendations including two additional runways, purchase of field equipment, and fueling arrangements, with proposals to accept public input through Ed Mayer and other members.

Stowaway Replaces Calf in Ford Plane En Route East

A stowaway was found aboard a Love Field plane where a bull had recently been. H. F. Schaefer, a Schulenburg youth, emerged from the hold on landing after secretly riding in the compartment used to transport the bull from Oconomowoc Wisconsin to Schulenburg. Airline staff let him remain on board to continue to Oconomowoc.

Amarillo Weather Forecast Saturday Unsettled Cooler

Forecast for Amarillo and Vicinity cooler and unsettled through Saturday with mainly cloudy skies and likely showers in the north portion, cooler conditions in the north and east. New Mexico expected fair and colder, while a stationary low pressure over the Mississippi valley and Rockies keeps warm in the plains but colder in northern Rockies. Temperature readings show 58 to 70 across the period with variable afternoon values.

Amarillo voters will choose seven candidates for three vacancies on the Amarillo independent school district board. Main issue is six year old children’s tuition-free admission, with plans to avoid extra taxes. Polls open 8 am to 6 pm. voters must reside in the district.

Grand jury harsh on bond forfeitures and liquor enforcement

The January term grand jury urged a new courthouse and jail plus a county farm home for the unfortunates. They criticized liquor law enforcement, pool halls allowing minors, and tax-sale errors. After 88 days and 300 witnesses, 62 felonies were indicted. bonds worth 80 000 to 100 000 were forfeited with none collected. many bonds disappeared or were dismissed for defects.

Rescue of Crew From Burning Schooner Chifa Off Fourth Cliff

The navy department announced that five crew members of the schooner Chifa were rescued after their vessel caught fire and sank near the Fourth Cliff naval radio compass station in Massachusetts. The report came via Rear Admiral Phillip Andrew, commandant of the First Naval District in Boston.

Pampa April 5 The sixth annual conference of the Eighth district Congress of Mothers and P T A Associations adjourned with a resolution asking the state legislature to appropriate funds to survey Palo Duro canyon for a state scenic highway and to build a highway linking the north and south plains. Governor Exonerates Dan Moody Case From Liquor Charge

Dan Moody was exonerated in district court as charges for liquor law violations were dismissed. District Attorney Edw W Thomerson sent Moody copies of the indictment and motion to dismiss with a note the governor would be glad to hear of the disposal. Moody’s whereabouts in Amarillo are unknown. the case dates back two years to the boom period.

May file suit to cut fee of toll bridges

Officials from Texas and Oklahoma meet in Sherman to consider forcing toll reductions on Red River Bridge Company bridges. The War Department had earlier ordered lower charges but the company obtained a restraining injunction.
