Berlin April 4 AP dispatch reports rumors overshadowing the air corridor from Frankfurt to Berlin used to feed and move people. The Moscow bureau chief describes delays and perceived Soviet interference as planes try to reach Berlin amid chatter about shoot downs.
Miners await a decision from Lewis on resuming work after a shutdown. The potential outcome will affect production and union negotiations.
Washington reports 400000 coal miners face a legal squeeze as Judge Goldsborough weighing contempt penalties could double fines for the United Mine Workers and John L. Lewis. A deadly crash near Borger left Dean Burleson and Diane Foster dead while four others were injured. The car struck a Santa Fe freight as it backed south into Borger from Phillips near Main Street. Police later identified injured riders Barbara Newcomb, Don Brown, Lonnie Tilson, and Richard Manning.

In Butte on April 4 Democratic National Chairman J Howard McGrath told 400 Montana party leaders that Truman's reelection is as certain as their presence. McGrath and Senators James Murray and Warren Magnuson promote the President while touring the West and welcoming a public Missoula reception. He praises Truman for standing by convictions and adjusting course when in error amid debates over voting restrictions and Western ballots.
Duane Hennessy reports Milton Reynolds arrived in Tokyo after an unauthorized flight from Shanghai during a failed expedition to the Amne Machin Range in China. Reynolds claims he fled a financial shakedown and that his questCost him 250000. He described flinging ball point pens at guards as he departed with crew aboard the Explorer.
Reynolds and three crewmembers evacuated from Nanking after police seized passports amid a failed expedition. He accused Chinese authorities of delaying their exit while claiming to back a refueling pledge in exchange for safe passage. The group hoped for US Army clearance to continue to Chicago from Shanghai, with plans to return home.
The Air Force reports a high speed in flight refueling method for B 29 bombers allowing rapid transfer of fuel between planes. Cited aims include bombing Russia from Alaska or Labrador bases once new equipment arrives next year. William Edward Rucker 26 of Phillips was killed in a head on collision about 2:45 a.m. on State Highway 152, southeast of Skellytown. A 1938 Chevrolet carried three Negro occupants who survived with minor injuries. Rucker was alone in a 1939 Ford. Rucker worked in Phillips Petroleum Company’s gasoline department.
