Major union contracts renewals loom this year with workers walksouts likely. Congress may curb government subsidies by banning strike benefits such as food stamps. Nation's Business cites a New York Telephone strike where 32,000 idle workers drew 50 million in unemployment benefits paid by employers.
A weekend tornado outbreak killed at least eight, with four deaths at a Calhoun Falls motel and more than 130 injuries in Athens Georgia. Hundreds were homeless as storms damaged mobile homes, knocked down buildings, and triggered curfews and National Guard deployments.
Daniel O'Gorman, 20, a West Texas State University junior and Amarillo Skydivers Club member, died when his main parachute failed to open during a Sunday jump from 13 500 feet over the Texas State Technical Institute campus. He cut the main chute and apparently forgot his reserve as he fell to the ground. Nearby safety officer Bob Hulsey noted the incident followed a cluster jump with five divers breaking away at 3 500 feet.
Daniel O Gorman a West Texas State University student from Shamrock fell to his death near Amarillo when both main and backup parachutes failed to deploy during a skydiving exercise.
Mrs. A C Coker of 109 N Beverley commends state and city law enforcers for repeatedly stopping her 16 year old grandson Randy Chambers east of the City. She notes 28 inspections in six months for operator license and quotes Randy saying he must drive with care. He adds officers are courteous and surprised by his careful driving.

Canadian missionary Lloyd Oppel relayed that two American women Evelyn Anderson 25 and Beatrice Kosin 35 tied to a grass hut were burned alive after villagers were captured during a Laos raid by Viet Cong. Another man Samuel Mattix 29 escaped, while nine others narrowly avoided capture.
