The annual Plainview Stock Show concludes its three day event with the sale on the closing day. Page 40. The show drew exhibitors and buyers for livestock and related products, wrapping up the county fair style gathering.
About 500 students and teachers from 58 Panhandle high schools heard three scientists speak at West Texas State University during the High School Nuclear Science Symposium. Rocco J. DeSalvo, rector of cafeterias for Amarillo Public Schools, said he found no fault with the food.
Judging for the ninth annual Texas Panhandle Science Fair begins at 10 30 a m at the Tri State Fairgrounds with 414 exhibits from 135 schools across 26 counties. Public viewing runs 9 a m to 10 p m Saturday and 1 to 5 p m Sunday, featuring displays in botany medicine health zoology chemistry earth sciences physics and mathematics.

Four gunmen ransacked safety deposit boxes at a plush hotel health spa beside the police station in Miami Beach, potentially stealing as much as two million dollars in jewels. Police investigated the daring theft, with early reports indicating multiple suspects and a well planned break in.
In Vietnam an artillery unit used 175 mm shells to stop a spreading forest fire near Dak Trok and to hinder bandits at the Harbour Isle Spa Hotel. The fire swath was burned away by the blasts, preserving the village and shifting the bandits’ haul. The raid at Harbour Isle Spa Hotel netted about $672,589 from safe boxes, with stated losses near $2 million before insurance.
Washington AP report states Campbell Soup Co. of Camden N J delays all nonessential capital outlays after President Johnson's plea. W B Murphy, company president and Business Council chair, announced the postponement as Johnson hosted council guests at the White House Wednesday night.
Harold Wilson led Labour to a landslide win over Edward Heath's Conservatives with early returns showing Labour at 302 seats to 149 for Conservatives and 5 for Liberals. Tory leaders acknowledged defeat while Wilson cautioned that final results were not yet settled.
Washington AP report states E. A. Gilbert president of the AFL-CIO Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Enginemen says he has not ordered a return to work on eight struck railroads despite a federal court restraining order. He met with Labor Secretary Wirtz amid ongoing talks with railroad representatives and possible appeals. The strike, affecting 12 percent of U.S. railroad mileage, prompted court action underscoring public interest during wartime.
Viet Cong attacked a 10 story U.S. officers billet in Saigon before dawn, killing five including three Americans and two Vietnamese and wounding 66 with automatic weapons grenades and a vehicle bomb. Victims include military police. the blast damaged the Victoria Hotel billet near Tran Hung Do Street. Rescue teams labored as hospital alerts followed and civilian casualties were reported nearby.
