Funeral services will be held for four members of the Frank P. Sherwood family killed in a two car crash near Wellington. The Sherwoods Ray Presley Harley Gene and Frank P. Sherwood were en route to their farm when their car collided with a southbound vehicle driven by William Gay and John L. Smith. The crash also injured two others in the other car. The services are set for Sunday at the Sumnerwood School gymnasium.
U S Secret Service agents report locating pre Castro Cuban exiles tied to a proposed kidnapping of Caroline Kennedy. The group described as pro Castro and anti Kennedy is said to be under surveillance in the Palm Beach area with no arrest yet due to insufficient evidence. Publicity may have deterred overt moves.
Secretary of State Dean Rusk, returning from SEATO talks, said the Bangkok meeting was highly productive and that allied resolve to stop a Communist takeover in Laos is united. He cautioned optimism is not certain, stressing step by step progress, a cease fire, and international talks with Moscow.
In Juneau on March 31 the Alaska Legislature learned it had repealed a 1959 legislative pay measure via a rider attached to a public retirement bill. Rep. John S. Hellenthal and Sen. George B. Snow damaged power and telephone lines in Hansford Ochiltree and Lipscomb Counties, snapping lines by Thursday night. Repair crews worked into Friday night to restore local service with Perryton reporting intra city calls back but long distance still out in Spearman and Perryton. Local sheriff officials projected long distance service to return near normal by mid afternoon Friday.
