Amarillo paint contractor O R Mc Collum faced a setback when a Tucumcari rock load for his new home was diverted by the truck driver after stopping at a filling station at Adrian. A week passed to obtain a driver statement and prove ownership of the stones.
The McCollums built a six room house at 1510 Travis in 1939 using over 100 tons of rocks and petrified wood gathered from Texas New Mexico and beyond. A petrified tree forms part of the chimney with a red clay squirrel, a large iron M decorates the front, and a stone fence topped with petrified wood frames the yard. The home blends diverse gems and fossils into a unique dream dwelling amid a housing shortage era.
Dallas banker Ben H. Wooten will address about 400 guests at the Amarillo Chamber of Commerce annual banquet on Postwar Responsibilities of Business. The event starts at 7 30 p.m. with honors for past chamber presidents and retiring board members.

A companion Robert Walker Temple was also rescued after being swept over the Highway 81 dam. Witnesses recount a harrowing undertow incident with Turner unconscious on rocks.

Calvin Lee Langston a 50 year old Odessa businessman died yesterday afternoon in a local hospital after a lengthy illness. He owned a tourist court and laundry in Odessa and had lived in Amarillo for treatment. He moved from Portales where funeral services will be held this afternoon and the body will be taken there by N S Griggs and Sons. Surviving is his wife Elizabeth Pearl Langston.
Mrs. Hattie E. Morrow, 80, died at 8 p.m. at her residence 4212 B West Eleventh after an illness beginning New Year’s Day. She was a First Baptist Church member active in the church until recent years. Survived by husband J. P. Morrow, son A. P. of Amarillo, daughters Mrs. J. M. Ayers of Amarillo and Mrs. Walter Bell of Vernon, seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Blackburn-Shaw in charge of arrangements.
The Army completed preparations for a major series of V-2 rocket tests with 25 reassembled German missiles to refine larger American designs. The first launch is planned for May 8 at White Sands Proving Ground in New Mexico, with tests spaced about a week apart.
Maj. Gen. Gladeon M. Barnes announced Army plans to test giant missiles capable of reaching about 100 miles up, higher than German wartime raids on London Antwerp and Liege. Radar will track the missiles and data collection during flight will be reduced from 200 miles to about 80 miles.

Strong winds 25 to 35 mph from the southwest, diminishing into Tuesday with a shift to north and northwest.
