Education convention report urged universal schooling
At a Middlesex County gathering in 1834 the committee urged universal education as essential to state strength. They cited Lord Bacon’s knowledge is power and urged state funds plus local effort to fund schools, train teachers, and raise literacy for citizenship. The report favors public education as a social and economic good and proposes delegates to a Vandalia convention.
