Hadley Anti Slavery Society Formed In Illinois

A February 27 1837 meeting at Blacksone's Grove Will County Illinois formed the Hadley Anti Slavery Society. Officers elected Rev J G Porter President Dea William Banpall Vice President J Preston Secretary and Treasurer. The group commits to abolition of slavery in the United States and to constitutional efforts to end the domestic slave trade and extend rights to people of color. The Secretary was tasked to forward the proceedings to Chicago papers and other outlets.
