Griggs of New Jersey supports Phelps for vice president and Levi P Morton is nominated after ballots show Morton with 501 votes to 119 for Phelps. The convention adopts a temperance resolution and prepares to notify nominees while Harrison receives spontaneous homecoming cheers.
General Harrison appears at a front window and balcony to acknowledge cheering crowds in the city. He then leaves in a waiting car for home as supporters crowd the street and offices. the scene shifts to a northern city residence with continued calls from bystanders.
In Washington City on June 27 Senator Sherman shows visible nerves as telegrams arrive during the seventh and eighth ballots. News that Geo Harrison failed to secure nomination shifts New York's 72 votes to Sherman, causing elation and a crowd around the senate bulletin board to erupt.

In Thrrix Ohio on June 7 the Baltimore and Ohio fast line east collided with a passenger train loaded with Chinese workers. The engine was demolished, the engineer killed and several passengers injured though not seriously. The line was blocked for twelve hours and passengers rerouted via Fostoria and Columbus.
At Daniel Marsh and Sons coal mine near Belleville Illinois five workers were injured when a hoisting rope broke and dropped them eighty feet. Injuries include crushed limbs and a broken spine with two men in critical condition and expected to die. All victims are single except Hoffman who has a wife and children.
Mrs Helen Althouse of Attica escaped poisoning after two unknown men visited and she was induced to drink coffee. She showed poisoning symptoms before they left. The crime is reported to the district attorney as investigators seek the would be poisoners.
In Curnfox Iowa on June 27 Judge Howarth issues a temporary injunction against nine saloonkeepers and the buildings they occupy, restraining liquor sales until a district court hearing in September. Mayor Chase led the effort, marking a victory for enforcement supporters as the enjoined saloons close.
The Senate took up the legislative executive and judicial appropriation bill while the House resumed consideration of the public land bill by sections for amendments.
In New York on June 22 at 6 40 a m Beaford a 16 year old hall boy shot Rosie Sheridan 19 an assistant cook in the boarding house at 125 West Thirty fourth street killing her then killed himself with a bullet to the temple No motive is known for the act.
The president sent to the senate nominations including Oscar E. Rea of Dakota for register of the land office and D. L. William D. Myers of Missouri as agent for Kiowa Indians, with other nominations listed.

A Mason City Iowa Central derailment injures engineer and fireman, fireman badly. James Richardson fatally shot in City Iowa by Thomas Basket who was intoxicated. Denis McCarthy and Paul Zastraw drown in Nipasing Lake near Alba Michigan after a boating accident. Waverly banker N B Ridgeway dies aged about. Estate valued at 250000.
A disastrous blaze raged through Sundsvall, center of a large lumber district on the Gulf of Bothnia, nearly destroying the town and causing widespread damage. Stock Holm reports the fire on June 27.
