Especial to Alton Telegraph from Hertarny C is Feb 20 reports a passenger coach jumped the track nine miles from Bellaire damaging the train 30 feet high. Twenty passengers injured thirteen seriously. Injuries to ex congressman Dunford Mrs Caldwell and a young German said to prove fatal. Fireman detached the engine to avert disaster.
In Wasuinatos on February 20 the resident nominated Rowland Trowbridge of Michigan as Commissioner of Indian Affairs to replace Hayt. The Senate Territories Committee plans to report favorably a bill opening Indian Territory to settlement under the regular territorial government.
Special to Mton Telegraph reports George Amter and Jay Nelson, plus nine other prisoners, escaped from the county jail at eight last evening by burning the door and sawing the lock. They moved to the debtors department then to the court area and finally fled, leaving only a few inmates behind.
In Murfreesboro Tennessee on a February afternoon a murderer named Holland Smith faced execution at the scaffold. A large crowd gathered, with many standing along the area to witness the event, and the atmosphere carried a somber mood as the sentence was carried out.
A Berlin dispatch says Biammarck remains in critical condition after a freight train collision near the Cu Ac freight depot. Several hogs were killed and some cars damaged in the wreck. Shipman resident Win Mucha testified at the scene.
