Honolulu rebels lose ground as Liliuokalani declares the republic the lawful government and waives claims to restoration. Widespread arrests follow. authorities seize arms and draft a new cabinet and constitution. Fire and disaster notes brim the page with other local misfortune reports.

In Curiaco Feb 7 Deputy Marshal Jones failed to serve a subpoena on George M Pullman who is later found to be in Washington. E V Debs testified in the conspiracy trials before Judge Grosseay detailing the American Railway Union's aims and its growth from 50 to 900 members by the July strike, and noting his attempt to avert trouble at Pullman without his consent.

Feb 7 reports the president signed a law reviving the army rank of lieutenant general for Major General Schofield. Brigadier General Ruger, in command of the Missouri department, is promoted to major general with immediate effect.
Anton Christianson suffered a rusty wall injury leading to blood poisoning followed by scarlet fever. His three children, ages 8 5 and about two summers, contracted the illness. the eldest, the five year old, and the infant died within days, the mother and remaining child left destitute and later aided by neighbors.
V L Sissela of Colombo Ceylon, a tea importer and former World's Fair commissioner, was mistaken for a black passenger aboard an eastbound Louisville and Nashville train. He was relegated to the smoker, offered a thousand mile ticket, and after a confrontation left at Belleville with losses and later rejoined his journey to Evansville Indiana.
