Laneno Tex August 14 Preparations are complete for the execution today of two murderers, both Mexicans. Cledonio Chevarria and Crestino Aldava were convicted for double murders near Webb County. Chevarria admitted guilt and faces the hang. Aldava killed Savino Ciprian and his neighbor Francisco Saldana after betraying his brother’s trust. The stories recount a prairie campfire murder in 1879 and a subsequent, brutal feud. The two men await the scaffold as a town follows the grim proceedings.
At Arcaden near Padaeah a white woman confronts a negro burglar in her home. A sharp gunfire follows a struggle, the intruder escapes through a window after a bloodied trail is found. Formal notice from New York dated August 14 reports the renewal of a fifteen year contract for operating sleeping cars across the Pennsylvania Railroad system between the Pennsylvania Railroad Company and the Pullman Palace Car Company. The event occurred in Philadelphia. Also dated August 14 in Washington D C announces W D Haynie of Illinois appointed chief clerk in the office of the First Assistant Postmaster General, replacing James J Marr who moves to a clerkship. Marr began service in 1827 and joined the Post Office Department in 1835.
Washington August 14 Postmaster General Vilas departed Washington for his Wisconsin home. He will stop in Chicago and be away until about September 10. During his absence First Assistant Postmaster General Stevenson will act as head of the department.
In Washington on August 14 the Empress of Russia sent an autograph note to Miss Cleveland asking that the honor be translated into Russian. The Kayprese ex expresses great admiration for her work and makes the request on behalf of her United Women group.

Captain Bourne of Woodstock was stricken near Ottawa and for a time believed to be dying. Tensions rose as men claimed the exercise was intentional and sparked by hostility toward the regiment. An investigation is expected.
A fire at Michael Day's barrel factory on Warren street spread to a Sap Furniture Company store and multiple tenements on Railroad avenue, consuming six three story double tenements housing seventy five families. The loss is estimated at 50000 dollars with origin unknown. Residents fled in night clothes as flames reached across the block.
