Land Auction Offers 40 or 50 Per Section Chance for Speculators
In a district court last week about 350 tax suits were adjudicated with land sections involved. All parcels go to sheriff sale on the first Tuesday in November or December. Speculators have a chance to buy at 40 or 50 dollars per section. If not redeemed in two years buyers may receive a good title. if redeemed earlier, double the amount paid is returned.
Killing at Fort Davis Shoots Saloon Keeper Lige Stewart
Last Tuesday morning about 5 o'clock in Fort Davis a Mexican crowd shot and killed Davis, known as Lige Stewart, outside the Saloon of W S McBride. Stewart had attended a dance in celebration of the Mexican holiday and was a barkeeper. a Winchester lay near him and the shooter took away his six shooter earlier. Felipe Martinez and Cresencio Fierro are named among those connected, with seven others involved.
