Miss Lena Ham aged 18, daughter of Mrs. Carrie Ham, died at her mother's Alpine home Tuesday evening. She moved here recently seeking health benefits from the high altitude, but the change proved too late. Remains are held awaiting arrival of family members in Jack County.
A two day spell brought the best rain of the year to Brewster county with varying amounts. The dower and southwestern areas saw a modest shower while other sections received a thorough drenching.

Mr. R R Youngblood has sold his ranch of 19 sections located about 15 miles southwest of Alpine to J C Orgain of Bastrop. The Marfa New Era reports the consideration as a $4.50 bonus.

The Garnett family expresses gratitude for the kindness shown during their recent bereavement. Mrs Ed Garnett and family extend thanks to friends neighbors and colleagues for support and sympathy.
Alpine loses early settler Edward Garnett who died at his home last Friday night. He arrived in 1885 and helped build the town, leaving a widow and four daughters Mary Ellen Lorena Grace Eddie Lee, plus two sisters and two brothers. A longtime friend from Victoria traveled over five hundred miles to attend the funeral, which was held at the family residence and burial followed in Alpine cemetery.
Since the last Avalanche issue the courts devoted most time to two murder trials. State v Leandro Arango ended with a guilty plea and a 15 year penitentiary sentence after initial agreement, a new trial followed. State v Robt Goodwin saw no verdict with jurors split six for conviction and six for acquittal. Electric current now supplied every Wednesday morning. An advertisement page lists a new Breswster County map showing the Orient Ry and Alpine, Turner’s Land Office, Episcopal Church notice, and a Sunday service at 11 o’clock in the Western Wheelmen hall. Public cordially invited.
