U. S. Postoffice Inspector C R Clark touring Alpine for a new site suggest seraching options through Sept 30 1911. Proposals due for leasing 1200 square feet with rent heat light water vaults furniture and equipment, location near business center and within eighty rods of railroad depots. night reserved to reject all.
At a Commercial Club directors meeting on Tuesday afternoon a resolution allowed the president to issue a $9,000 check to Orient Railroad Company as the first $30,000 installment of a promised bonus. An engineer’s estimate shows over $20,000 in grading completed since July 1. Camps had halted for a week but work is expected to resume and the grade rushed to finish.
The Alpine Commercial Club proposed a 10000 cash grant and 160 acres to the Grand Lodge of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows to locate a Widows Home nearby. The local lodge backed Alpine, and directors indicated willingness to receive proposals. The club believes the climate and location boost Alpine’s chances and population growth.
Alpine has a strong chance to land the Baptist Female Seminary, discussed at the recent association meeting. Local Baptist leader H C Phillips urges immediate action, citizens pledge donations, and a site has been offered. A committee will choose the location next month.
Del Rio Sheriff Jno Robinson will wed Miss Alice Walton Strong of Alpine at the Methodist church in Alpine on October 4, 1912. Cards are issued announcing the upcoming marriage and plans.
