Big Bend Park News Highlights Local Visit and Staff Additions
Travel to Big Bend Park declined to fall and winter levels as schools resume. Campfire programs remain popular with 76 sessions in summer serving 14 945 people and 81 nature walks for 1 556. Visitors to the Administration Building lobby reached 18 179. Five campfire programs weekly return, nightly except Sunday and Monday at 8 pm. A tour by about 90 members of the Tourist Development Committee visited Basin to Castelon and Rio Grande Village, while regional forester Tom Fla and others explored Mariscal Canyon. Local staff additions include Ismael Acosta Enrique Briceno Alberto Hernandez Hilton Locke Urbano Martinez and Mack Shockley. Cotton yields and school enrollment data are also noted.
