In Marathon area last week, L D Louthian killed a notably large eagle. A seven inch claw covered in wool and blood suggests the predator feasted on a lamb. The wingspan reached seven feet nine inches.

Cu ano Jaurez a Mexican section hand from Lenox lost his left foot when a freight train slowed on a steep grade near Marathon. He slipped while attempting to board and was dragged beneath the wheels. He was brought to Alpine then sent to the railroad hospital at El Paso for care.
