Alpine Thrift Club Cans Beef for Relief Work

The Alpine Thrift club formed weeks ago to aid relief efforts has canned 72 No. 2 meat cans and 67 No. 1 cans, plus 15 No. 2 blackeyed peas and 2 No. 8. About 30 workers were paid in canned goods, feeding families out of work. Some products valued at 44 were turned to the city for welfare use after costs of cans labor fuel and seasoning. The club saves ranchers labor, as a 308 pound beef yielded 204 No. 2 cans and the owner received half the value of all products, estimated at 2140, with no other expense. Visitors may inspect Berkeley Hall quarters and contact Cecil Duncan RA McMurry or ML Hopson to exchange work for cans.
