Prevent House Fires by Checking Flues Before Winter
Before pacing up your neacers for the winter, it will be well to ake a careful examination of the an or zinc flues in your dwelling. Fires are more numerous during the early months of winter than many other season of the year, due to defective flues. It is not sufficient to attempt to detect flaws by merely looking up through the flue, it should be carefully tested for defects. One good method is to drive a nail through the end of a long stick and push it up and down the sides of the flue. In this man that looks sound will, upon examination, be found so badly rusted that it will fall to pieces upon ap plication of the slightest pressure. If there is any question whatever as to the soundness of your flues it will pay to have them refined before putting up heaters. This advice does not cost anything, whether you follow it or not, but if followed it might be instrument al in saving some home from be ing burned.
