City Council Approves Planning and Zoning Appointments
City approved Mayor Bill Winter's picks Paul Forchheimer Bob Corkins and Mark Hopkins to the Planning and Zoning Commission. Under a 1947 ordinance the panel will draft a master plan for Alpine and surroundings and prepare zoning provisions. Terms run one year and the group will elect a chairman and vice chairman.

Hollis, Alpine city water and sewer superintendent, earned a gold star pen from Jack Huppert, president of the Texas Water and Sewer Works Association, for outstanding performance as a certified operator. Hearing Set January 24 on Lake Dam at Brown Ranch
Texas Water Commission will hold a hearing in Austin at 10 a.m. Monday January 24 1963 on Mrs. George A Brown’s request to build a dam on Calamity Creek about 13 miles south of Alpine. The dam would divert 6047 acre feet annually from Calamity Creek a Rio Grande tributary. The earth dam would be 100 feet high 500 feet wide with a six mile shoreline near Cathedral Mountain. Trinity Testing Laboratory has completed core drilling tests showing favorable soil for holding water and plans foresee a lake developed as a resort if a permit is issued.

Killion Baby Laid to Rest
Funeral services were held for seven week old Michelle Killion in Samesa. She was the daughter of Shirley Ray Killion and his wife of Odessa and granddaughter of Mr and Mrs Kirby Killion of Alpine. The infant died in a car truck collision near Fort Stockton on Friday while returning from Thanksgiving with the Alpine family. Maternal grandparents are Mr and Mrs Lofton Jamison of Lamesa.

Grace A Knight known as Mrs. O A Knight died suddenly at home in Marfa on Friday. Services were held November 24 at the Marfa Methodist Church. She was born February 22, 1892 in Minneapolis and later lived in Fort Davis and Maria. Survived by husband O A Knight a son Jackal Knight a daughter Mrs Jeff M Graham a sister and six grandchildren. Burial followed at Marfa Cemetery with pallbearers listed.
