The Alpine Ministerial Alliance schedules the Community Thanksgiving Service at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church at 10 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day. Rev. Jimmy Wilson of First Baptist Church will speak with other ministers taking part. Businesses close for the holiday and schools dismiss midweek with regular return on Monday.

Loboettes Capture State Volleyball Title at Kingsville
Loboettes of Sul Ross State University won the Texas state volleyball championship in Kingsville on Nov 20 21. Coached by Marilyn McReavy the team clinched the West Texas district and national titles and will defend their national crown in Lawrence Kansas on Feb 4. Captain Mary Jo Peppler led the tourney as outstanding player with Helen Esparza delivering strong serving.

Local Visitors Plan Thanksgiving Holiday Stay
Locals Mrs. Charles F. DeBarbrie Jr. and daughter Mary Ann from Victoria arrived Saturday to visit Mrs. DeBarbrie’s mother Mrs. George A. Brown and aunts Misses Margaret A. Linn and Anna D Linn. Mrs. DeBarbrie returned Sunday and Mary Ann will remain over Thanksgiving. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Aguilar and young son from Anaheim lr. visited his parents Mr. and Mrs. Ben Aguilar. Walter attended Al pine High School and moved from here seven years ago. The family will remain through the Thanksgiving holidays.

Deer Season Forecast in Trans-Pecos Promises High Hunter Success
Weather-conditioned outlook predicts a successful season as deer in the Trans-Pecos area show excellent condition. The buck-only deer season for landowners and lessees runs November 28 to December 13, with chambers of commerce listing hunting spots. Quail season opened November 14 and runs through January 31, 1971.

Fort Davis High School sophomore Jamie Dyer, 15, was named Queen of the Tri County Livestock Association after a contest with entrants from Marfa Fort Davis Marathon and Alpine. Dyer sponsored by Fort Davis Lions Club, previously 4 H Gold Star Girl 1969 and state 4 H judging third place 1970. The event raised 1069.79 dollars for the association plus 2610 from the Highland Hereford Bull Sale, funding the first Tri County Show January 22 23 at the Presidio County Airport.

Big Bend Sportsman's Club Deer Contest Announced
The Big Bend Sportsman's Club sponsors a deer contest for members and their families only with deer harvested west of the Pecos during the 16 day season ending December 28. Weighing occurs at the Big Bend Wool and Mohair warehouse in Alpine on day three. Eligible entrants must be club members by November 8. Prizes include multiple categories for men and women with booby prize for the smallest deer. winners will be announced at the 8 p.m. December 15 meeting in the Municipal Building Community Room.
