Ex-Slave Recalls Service In North And South Armies
A 96 year old Alabama ex slave Pat Jackson from Wilcox county recalls serving in both Confederate and Union forces during the Civil War. He traveled to Montgomery to see the city again, noting changes since 1865. Jackson aided breastworks at Mobile, ran away, was captured, then joined the Yankee army at Demopolis and marched to Montgomery. He mustered out after the war and returned home until this visit.
