Pallbearers included John Kokernot and Cavin Woodward among others.
The Eagle Oil Co of Indiana leases the 124000 acre Roark ranch in southeastern Brewster county and plans an Ellenburger wildcat within a year. J O Langford former Brewster County resident and Hot Springs owner visited Alpine with Fred Gibson of Mason this past weekend. Langford now lives in Kerrville and Gibson is known for Hound Dawn and Fabulous Empire. They gathered area information for a book Langford plans to publish and Gibson helps compile material.
The Avalanche reports low deer numbers for the week with only 14 deer collected at the ice plant and locker plant for the first day. Comparable storage at Marta shows a similar total. Weather has been poor for hunting, contributing to the slow start and hunters delaying to a second day.
Jerry Starnes, Santa Claus Treasure Hunt chair, announced entries for window displays must be received by November 26 at the chamber office. Santa and his sleigh will arrive from 8 to 8:30 p.m. with a parade route through Alpine, and ample courthouse parking will be available for spectators.

UNM Press publishes Slash Ranch Hounds by G W Dub Evans former New Mexico state senator and cattle grower leader. The tale follows Evans hound lore along Slash Ranch near the Gila wilderness touching Mogollon Black Range and Gila rivers. Evans recounts bear and lion hunts with a famed pack and his left handed hat roll as a signature trait.
In a raucous 1951 finale the Bucks edged the Maria Shorthorns 38 30, overcoming early penalties and a late rally by Maria. Key plays included a fumbled opening and a final drive near the goal line as Lavon and Larson connected for the clinching score.
Sul Ross Stave College plans to bring two traveling exhibits from the New Mexico Art Gallery, Santa Fe. The Moylan Water Colors show runs from December 3 in the Fine Arts building and features twelve watercolors by Moylan, a noted southwestern watercolorist, plus a variety of landscape, portrait, and still life works.
The Mary Decie No 1 oil test by Woods Oil and Gas Co. reached 4402 feet northwest of Marathon. Drilling progresses about 50 feet daily with no water or gas pockets found below 200 feet. Company official Hassinger says geology looks favorable but no oil shows expected before 6000 feet. The test sits in the INE corner of Section 47, GC&SFRY Co. survey.
The season's first casualty was reported Tuesday as W. H. Blanks of San Angelo lost two toes in a hunting accident on the Rosillas ranch near Big Bend National Park. He is resting in a local hospital.
Mr. Ted Miller of El Campo visiting here for several days suffered a heart attack on the street Monday while staying with Walter Hays during deer hunting season. As the Avalanche goes to press he is reported improving in a local hospital.
Oklahoma A&M took first place as Sul Ross led the point parade in cross country. Injuries marred events with Roy White Worth and Bobby Williams sidelined. Result highlights include Barrett and Rosser topping bareback, saddle bronc, bull riding, and rope events with multiple Sul Ross placers and California Poly, West Texas State among top finishers. Cotton Rosser named all around cowboy and Mary Green all around cowgirl amid a long list of event winners.
