The High School Stunt Fest at Alpine Schools marked the first of its kind for the district. It drew the largest auditorium turnout to date and listed winning classes as Seventh Grade, Art Department, and Latin Class. Proceeds were reported as sizable.
P Ferguson and family relocate to Hamlin as Ferguson resigns from Can Kitchen and accepts a new post as Interchange Clerk with Orient Railroad. Alpine mourns the loss of an estimable family while praising them and wishing success in their new home. The move is noted as Hamlin's gain and Alpine's loss. County Commissioners Court met in regular quarterly session Monday November 10 1919 with County Judge A M Turney presiding. Present were Clarence Hord Prenet H Fletcher R H Crawford WAR Cartledge. Actions included approving assessor account, accepting resignation of E H Todd Justice of the Peace Precinct No 3, reviewing County Judge reports, and granting W F Harris $20 monthly for keeping starting December 1 1919, replacing $18.
Excerpt reports Bishop Frederick B. Howden of the New Mexico diocese visiting Alpine next Monday November 17. He will speak at 7 PM with Rev Mr McClellan hosting Mr George A Boome at Meverich Court on the Growing-Hley Ranch property. The event includes a Service and addresses before a regional tour to Fort Stockton and nearby towns.
Monday morning Messrs W C Sparman and W C Jameson formed the Alpine Auto Co in the garage department of the Southwestern Auto & Supply Co. They left Borde land Auto Co to start anew, bringing experience and skill. Stewart remains with Southwestern Auto and Supply Co to manage. The Avalanche hopes for their successful venture.
J. S. Chambers of Marathon visited Alp and purchased a celebrated saddle from H. Yates' saddlery. The saddle impressed with superior carving and a master hand touch, bearing Chambers' initials and his brand on one of the hops. It was noted as a fine saddle made for service and admired by Alpine folk.
S M Sorrell of Broken Bow Oklahoma married Mrs Anna Wooden of Alpine on Friday November 7 1919 at 10 30 am. The ceremony was performed by Judge W TH Ragin at the home of Mr and Mrs G A Umrall in Alpine. The groom works as a hard working contractor laying sidewalks. Anna Wooden has lived in Alpine for years and the couple plan to reside in Broken Bow Oklahoma. The Avalanche extends congratulations and wishes them happiness. They will relocate to Broken Bow after the ceremony.
The Methodist congregation praised a Sunday morning vocal duet by Howard Derrick and Karl Kirk who accompanied themselves on piano. Their performance of It Pays to Serve Jesus blended nicely and drew hopeful wishes for more public singing in Alpine.
Mrs A B Sandifer harvested her sweet potato crop last week from a patch northwest of the house, about 30 feet square, yielding fourteen bushels. She is noted as a skilled gardener and already has a nice lot on part of the ground. A F Schultz arrived in Alpine, staying at Hotel Holland in San Antonio, and will speak after business matters.
The Science Department adds two large student built cabinets for lab supplies ensuring safety and order. The Senior Class completed the cabinets and will exhibit a large Panama model. A high school program features music by the Glee Club and talks by A S Er ville and J J Allen on Europe and war relief.
R F Meate delivered at the Maine G H S A stock pens Monday 123 head of cows and heifers and 40 calves sold to Mipe and tehikin. He represents the San Antonio Packing Company. Tuesday it given out W W Jett and family moved into the residence vacated by Mg and Mrs 8 P Ferguson and Emily.
