Master Sergeant James McNeil, recruiting sergeant at Mid Texas, reports twins from Midland renewed enlistment after four years in the Army. The two men, identical in appearance, stood before him as they signed up for a second hitch, continuing their military service.
Idebert and Elbert Adams, Midland natives born in Tyler on October 12 17, WW II veterans who enlisted in Dallas January 1941, served side by side from Infantry to Army Air Forces, promoted together to staff sergeant in 1943, and advanced as armorers in the 65th Fighter Squadron ETO. They shared barracks, meals, and passes, remaining inseparable throughout their military careers.
Texas warns used car buyers to secure acceptable proof of ownership from sellers as the State Highway Department moves to curb stolen and mortgaged vehicles. E J Amey, director, says county tax collectors will require proof of ownership on all vehicle title applications.
Amey outlined minimum ownership proof for vehicles brought into Texas from 17 non title states including Louisiana. A 1945 Louisiana license receipt and current receipt in the applicant’s name will be accepted with bills of sale for all ownership changes. The title law was endorsed at a meeting of dealers, enforcement officers, tax collectors and finance and insurance reps to review current title requirements.
A garbled state report discusses vehicle title issues in Texas. It mentions that purchasers in other states face hurdles to obtain valid Texas titles. The National Automobile Theft Bureau estimates current title requirements have reduced sales of tower cars in Texas.
