A lively PTA carnival closed the year’s project with a courthouse old timer’s dance Saturday night and a Monday parade led by the Alpine High band. The second grade won first prize, followed by the first and seventh grades, then Granada theatre. Queen Mary Bess Hamilton crowned by Principal E O Phillips amid ceremonial pageantry. Mayor Starns missed the crowning due to a scheduling mix up.

Fort Davis Loyalist Mrs. M. B. Anderson Dies at 87
Mrs. M. B. Anderson, 87, longtime Fort Davis resident since 1883, died after a long illness at her daughter's home. A Kentucky native who taught the first Fort Davis public school and later served as postmistress, she also taught in Marfa and was active in the Bloys Cowboy Camp meeting. Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. at Fort Davis. Survived by daughter Mrs. Merrill and son Gaither Anderson of Los Angeles.

Mexican Bellhop Shot During Raid on Dice Game
Alpine Mexican bellhop Matilde Pallanes was accidentally shot by Night Watchman Sumrall during a raid on a south town dice game early Wednesday. The wound was serious but not life threatening, and physicians expect a full recovery. Sheriff Elmer Taylor also took part in the operation.

Burglaries at Alpine Home Net Thieves Left Loot, Burned Items
