Lost Mine Tale Emerges From West Texas History
Odessa report recounts Old Sublett a pioneer's rumor of a hidden gold strike near here in the 1880s. The legend says Sublett carried the mine secret to his grave after dying in 1892, while locals recall his periodic returns with small gold finds and vague proof of a vast deposit. A Denver man later tested old samples said to be Sublett’s gold, but no further details have surfaced.
