Session Talk and Gubernatorial Runoff in Texas Spotlight
Capitol chatter centers on Gov. Connally calling a 1969 budget and tax session by mid June, potential liquor by the drink issue, and a high stakes runoff between Preston Smith and Don Yarborough. Smith rides liberal conservative lines as Yarborough leads in first primary. Eggers eyes general election challenge. Also notes education board standards for kindergarten teachers and desegregation staff studies tied to $129 million in federal funds.
