In a tour of train cars a reader notes Alpine Texas’s strong advertising in the Avalanche, reflecting a thriving business community. The piece lauds Alpine advertisers as lively and up and coming, with local papers seen as a town barometer for newcomers.
The Alpine Avalanche publishes the official condition of Alpine State Bank at Alpine Texas showing assets of 909 456 06 and deposits of 207 090 11. Directors Artest J K Holland W Henderson W Van Sickle and the bank officers Benj J Berkeley president and H W Ferguson cashier declare the figures correct sworn May 1 1921 by notary G B Crawford.
The Avalanche touts Alpine advertisers and its general advertising strength, claiming cities and prosperous communities will soon make Alpine live up to the stranger’s guess of a bustling 10,000 plus population.
Official bank condition report for Marathon State Bank Texas as of April 26 1921 published in Alpine Avalanche May 12 1921. Lists resources loans and discounts bonds and reserves including cash on hand and deposits from other banks with totals and liabilities.
