The Alpine Avalanche urges the city council to address sanitary issues including cesspools and privy vaults as the water comes from wells and the rainy season nears. It argues public health outweighs individual convenience and calls for swift action to avoid a fever epidemic.
At a New Jersey legislative hearing the Jersey City prosecutor described green poultry and meat kept in cold storage, washed to restore color, with intestines left in and eggs stored for years. He argued the food trust uses storage to raise prices harming consumers and farmers alike, urging restrictions. A separate social notes item recalls a party for Miss Boyce with hand painted palettes and a sketching contest.
A report from Alpine recalls a recent event hosted by Miss Bonnie Boyce at 34 North Second Street. The party for the Palette Club of the Los Angeles School of Art and Design featured a beautified home with smilax garlands and roses, centering on an ornate dining table arrangement.
Messrs. W. T. Henderson and Clyde Buttrill of Alpine spent last week at Rocilla Ranch with the latter driving. Miss Alice Schley of Devine, Texas, is visiting her sister. A meteor explosion was heard in the vicinity last week with many witnesses describing a terrifically loud report. Mr. and Mrs. John Hender- peru?
Recent visitors include R. W. Miller of Marathon D. F. Rice Sam Nail of Tussleville and J. F. White of Alamo Alto. The community enjoyed a pleasant hop last week and invitations go out for a reception at Rocilla Ranch on May 20th. Fruit predicts a plentiful year with peaches plums and figs abundant. Harper B. Lee, an American bull fighter born in Brewster County, was tossed by a bull in Guadalajara on May 9 and severely injured. Reports say he is much improved after doctors allowed nourishment and hope for recovery follow his previous near-fatal injuries and groin wound.
