Looking Back at 1950 Tech Dreams and Local Notes
A reminiscence titled This Alpine reflects on 1930s visions of a 1950s push button world, then moves through local Alpine notes. It salutes community meal programs, praises Sul Ross athletics and Red Pierce, mentions a new column This Alpine, and hints at youth recreation plans and Religious Emphasis Week efforts with the Alpine Ministerial Association. It closes with hope for a community youth center supervised by Will Atha and a Drag Inn project.

Market Steady as OPA Restores Slaughter Quota System

The measure aims to curb the black market and channel livestock into normal slaughter channels, with uncertain near term price effects. Cattle offerings were slightly up from the prior week but still below a year earlier. Los Angeles receipts fell again. Prices for fat steers and other grades varied, with New Mexico steers near 18.60, light steers 16 to 17.50, medium to good 15 to 15.50, and cows mainly 12 to 14.25, feeders 14.50 to 15, bulls 14 to 15. The sheep and lamb market remained about steady, testable top quotations not offered. lambs around 14.60 and ewes 6.50 to 7.
