Salvation Army Fund Drive Opens Today
The Salvation Army annual fund drive begins at 7 am with a Kick-off breakfast at White's Highland Cafe. The goal is 1150 dollars chaired by Don Newbury of Sul Ross State College with Alpine committee leaders Rev Earl Dunn and Rev Bob Bristol and a large local volunteer roster. One third stays in Alpine, two thirds fund state services and local emergency aid.

Matt Meador 75, Alpine photographer and longtime West Texas golfer nicknamed Middron, died Monday in a San Antonio hospital. Funeral held Wednesday at First Methodist Church with burial in Elm Grove Cemetery. Born October 29, 1889, in Goldthwaite he leaves a daughter Ida Beth Bennett and a son T Meador of Brownsville plus four grandchildren.

LaBeff and Duane Smith are candidates for county school trustees in the April 3 election per County Judge Felix Mc Gaughy.
