Dr W Gourney tax collector states he will issue executions soon if taxes are not paid within the next few days to avoid unnecessary costs. He urges delinquent taxpayers to settle promptly.
Judge W. Van Sickle announces a bid to become one of the district's two representatives after strong solicitation. A longtime county resident and 12 year county judge, he is described as a confirmed Democrat with wide local and state recognition. If not nominated he will seek re election as county judge.
A sheriff and deputy confronted Hopson at his home after disturbances. Briant was shot twice, one bullet entering his left arm and another behind his heart, but he kept hold on Hopson and helped subdue him. Hopson was severely beaten by the deputy and later jailed as Briant’s condition improved with surgery to remove the bullet.
Terlengua March 17 Good showers have fallen this week and the creek has been running. Every prospect of a good season. Mr Steve Dawson will leave here on the return of Messrs Dewees and Jack Dawson. Prof Rock from Mexico and Mr Puffer from Hoston were visiting here last week on mining business. The Professor is a member of the American Club Co of Mexico and represents a large syndicate. An important deal may be the result.
Dr T B Stephenson a physician and druggist formerly based in Marathon Ozona and Brewster county died Friday night at 11 20 at the home of Ssomer L Nix after a long illness His young wife who had been married just over three months accompanied his remains to Shelby county for burial.
A Wednesday night altercation in Marathon ended with two shots fired and two men knocked down. Garst fought a man whose name was not learned, then Jeff Avery, saloon keeper, stepped in and was knocked down. Avery drew and fired twice but missed. No major injuries reported beyond a few knockdowns.
Congressman Slayden reports letters seeking to block vaccine virus distribution by the Agriculture Secretary. He says Secretary Wilson will continue sending it to those in need unless Congress orders otherwise. Slayden notes progress on a hog cholera serum and 80 percent recovery from an infected herd. He forwards the letter for publication.
Guardians of the minor heirs Jesse F, Wm J S and Alice E White notify all indebted to the estate of Ophelia White deceased to settle and all claimants to present at Alpine Texas residence.
