REA Project For Brewster Okay'd
Funeral services were held at the First Baptist church here last Saturday at 3 p.m. for Baward Ventrees Casner, 98, who died at his West Alpine home early Friday. Casner, long in failing health, recalled Indian raids in West Texas. Born February 1857 in Llano County to Em ily Ehad and Marjorie Ann Hinds Casner, he grew up in Llano, ranching until 1918 when the family moved to Alpine where his two sons owned a Ford agency. One of the first barbed wire fences in West Texas was built on the Casner Ranch. A portion of the land is now under Buchanan Dam waters. He married Alice Arnold in 1888, a pioneer Texas family member born on a neighboring ranch. Casner retired from ranching and moved to Alpine. Mrs. Casner died in 1900, and Casner has continued on Last Page.
