Quicksilver Deposits Mapped in Brewster County Texas
In southwestern Brewster County near Terlingua, a belt of cinnabar quicksilver ore spans about eight by three miles across several blocks and sections. Prospecting and mining have begun, with early work dating to 1894 and later reports by Prof Blake and US Geological sources. The district relies on open cuts, shale associations, and near intrusions of doleritic rock, with furnaces built by Marta Mariposa and Terlingua Mining Company and water from the Rio Grande.
