Justifiable homicide ruled in Alpine shooting
Leslie H. Proffitt was killed Monday night by Sheriff Jim Skinner during an attempted arrest in Alpine. An inquest found the shooting occurred in line of duty during the confrontation after a crime attempt involving a 15 year old girl and a staged payoff. Proffitt, 26, died at a local hospital about 40 minutes later. Funeral services planned at First Baptist Church with Elm Grove Cemetery burial.

City to Hear Rezoning Request for Block 15 in North Alpine
City Council will hold a hearing Friday March 22 from 3 to 4 p m in the Chamber of Commerce building on a request to rezone Block 15 from residential to commercial for a shopping center. The zoning commission did not make a recommendation after a full hearing with 200-foot neighbors present.
