Alpine Car Stolen Again From Kokernot Family

The Hudson sedan owned by Lee Kokernot was stolen for the second time in two months. The car, left with the ignition key in the lock while the Kokernots attended a party at Clay Holland's home, was seen traveling west through Marfa around 11 PM. It was later found abandoned on the highway between Alpine and Marfa from the prior theft two months earlier.

Primary field grows as county committee finalizes ballots

With one month to election day July 25, many candidates for district county and precinct offices enter the race. The county Democratic executive committee drew ticket placement and set primary costs Monday. County Centennial Plans Progressing

Model of McDonald Observatory on display at Texas Univ Museum

An electrically driven working model of the McDonald Observatory in the Davis Mountains is on display on the second floor of the old UT library as part of the Centennial Exposition. Bloys Camp Meeting Sets August Start Date

Fort Davis reports a record June gathering at Skillman Grove as the Bloys Camp Meeting association approved August 18 to open the forty seventh annual camp. Preachers named include Rev John H Burma Sherman Presbyterian, Rev L D Anderson Fort Worth Disciples, Rev Mansfield El Paso Trinity Methodist, and Rev L R Millican to recruit Baptist services. Refreshing Showers Bring Relief in Highland Area

Local reports say refreshing showers fell Wednesday afternoon in the Highland area providing temporary relief from two weeks of unusually warm weather. Rain gauges in Alpine recorded a total of 0.38 inches, with precipitation described as purely local and no significant falls reported in many localities.

Stockton Road Nears Completion In Alpine Fort Stockton

The Alpine Fort Stockton section of U and highway 67 may open to traffic by July 15 said A Buchmaier state highway department resident engineer. About 20 miles in Brewster county have progressed with local labor, while Pecos county end from the Brewster line to the Santa Fe crossing near Hovey is nearly finished. Temporary drainage structures handled heavy rains. permanent designs are being drawn for Brewster county. The project aims to shorten Alpine distance and includes future underpass at the Santa Fe crossing.

Masons Plan For Joint Installation

Masons announce a joint installation involving the Sanderson Alpine Marfo Van Horn and Fort Davia lodges. Mrs Middlebrook's Brother To Be Buried Here This Morning

Mr Watters, brother of Mrs J R Middlebrook of Del Rio and Mrs A O Roll Houston, formerly Miss Ethel Watters, is to be laid to rest in a local funeral at the Lionston Funeral Home chapel after being shipped from Brawley Calif for burial this morning. He was known in Alpine as a rancher and is survived by two brothers Elmer Watters of Brawley Calif and Jim Watters of Sacramento Calif.

Alpine party attends Sacramento Assembly in New Mexico

Thirteen Alpine people left Monday to attend the Adult and Intermediate sessions of the Sacramento Assembly of the M E church in the Sacramento mountains of southern New Mexico. Park proposal for Big Bend eyed at CC meeting

Morelock urged Texans to embrace a Big Bend National Park in the Chisos mountains as an international peace project with potential state wide economic and tourist benefits. Golfers Gear Up For Alpine Club Tourney Here

Some 65 to 75 contestants are expected for the 116 anal tournament at Alpine Golf Club. Morgan Neill and Judge Pelphrey head list of entrants, with James Parker, Floyd William, and other skilled players from across the state. Qualifying rounds start tomorrow and continue through Sunday, plus a Calcutta pot tomorrow night.

Alpine Boys Confess To Robberies In Alpine

Two 12 year old Alpine youths confessed to multiple thefts and robberies in Alpine. They admitted breaking into Sunshine Service station, taking money and a diamond ring from homes, and tampering with post office boxes. Border Patrol agents obtained the confessions. no charges filed yet and the youths remain in parental custody.

Dr Goodman Departs Alpine for Government Inspection Work

Dr. R A Goodman who led the loco experiment station since September leaves Alpine with Mrs Goodman for New York City to resume government inspection duties. He is leaving in the absence of Dr Frank P Mathews who has returned to his University of Michigan degree work and has resumed his role as head of the government project here.
