Fourth of July Horserace and Roping Contest at Marfa

The Marfa Fourth of July events include a Horserace at 1 p.m. July 3 over 300 yards with an entrance fee of 200 dollars and first prize of 25 dollars. Entrance money funds second and third prizes. Santa Rosa Irrigation scheme eyed for Pecos County lands

J M McKenzie known as General plans Santa Rosa Irrigation and Ditch Co to water 4,000 acres near Grand Falls ten miles west of Pecos river, with capital stock of 10,000. The project aims to irrigate 1,000 to 1,200 acres using Santa Rosa springs on McKenzie’s ranch, boosting cotton output and valuing land from 20 to 40 dollars per acre.
