Alpine to Drill Water Well North of Town
The Alpine city commission hired a well drilling firm to bore a new well on the old smelter site with a 72 hour test target of 150 gallons per minute. If the test fails the city pays nothing. surpassing the minimum triggers a bonus increasing with output. Drilling begins once the property title is cleared as litigation proceeds. Water from the Fort Davis highway well was turned into mains, and officials expect 150 to 175 gpm to alleviate a severe shortage. Rationing resumes on the previously set schedule.
