Alpine Students Take Dallas Trip To Texas Centennial
Twenty one Alpine High School students left Wednesday for Dallas to attend the Texas Centennial. They will visit scenic and historic sites on the way and return next Wednesday. The trip is a reward for top grades by the school board and PTA. Accompanying adults include Peyton Cain the Junior High principal, Mrs. Ruby Gentry, and Miss Louise Ball.

Highland area praised for finest cattle in West Texas
Recognition of Highland Texas as a leading high grade cattle area. Calves selected from Highland herds will be used in feeder demonstrations at the Dallas Centennial exposition. Marfa shipments included 12 yearling steers and 12 steer calves from Highland ranches for exhibition. Demonstrations in Alpine under Tri County Agent Ernest Gibbons and La Monte Stephens coordinate the project.

Sul Ross College Hosts First 1936 Barbecue Gathering
More than seven hundred guests attended the Kokemnot Lodge event at Sul Ross College for the 1936 run. Miss Bedell organized the barbecue with pickles coffee and family and student attendance noted. Following eatery there was dancing and lawn games led by Miss Lutie Britt with E. E. Townsend and J. D. Jackson among the guests.

Drill Passes 2000 Feet At Hovey Dome
Drilling was under way at the Dodson Means Hovey Dome test eighteen miles northeast of Alpine. The well reached 2150 feet with casing expected around 2230 feet when the Delaware lime formation is encountered. Sam Means said progress has been good with no delays anticipated for the coming days.
