A surge of oil development is quietly moving in Brewster County with several wells started or in progress. Key players drilling or contracting include J A Hargus, Guy Combs, Kokernot, and A S Gage, the latter two each with two wells. Multiple leases have been turned in and more drilling contracts are anticipated soon.
WH Terry Jr of Alpine and Swift & Co auditor wed Alice Boone in a May 30 ceremony joining the Benedicks ranks. Parents are W H Terry and Mrs. Terry of Alpine.
The trial of the State of Texas, with Harry Spanell as defendant, for the killing of Colonel Butler, was continued until the next term. Alpine residents attended as witnesses including Anja Wilson, Lee Hancock, Lee Harrington, Pat Murphy, J C Bird, W H Harrison, J T Dorsey, John Holland, C W Livingston, Jennie Bucalew, and Jim Dod.
A message reports the 90th Division troops have landed and will be discharged at once. Delmarnd Morgan Terry is among those landed and expected home later this week. W. H. Terry is staying in Marlin for baths for a few weeks.
In Alpine Avalanche the phone company manager issues a full defense of wages and services, arguing prices have remained fixed while operating costs rise. He cites recent cuts to staff, warns patrons will bear future cost increases, and urges public understanding amid labor shortages and sidewalk improvements.
Mrs Jas R Middlebrook was elected as a delegate to the district Red Cross conference to be held in Dale las next week. Miss Lockett Price named Brewster Junior Chair, attends from Greenville. Peace Time program to be the keynote. A house party on Brown’s ranch drew guests including Mrs Bentleys, O S son, F E Gillett, and many others enjoying swimming and horseback riding.
Alpine base ball club members joined Fort Stockton on a regional tour. Traveling from Alpine were Bus Gillett Fritz Mile Lambrey Weyerts Pete Johnson and others, as the squad competes across Yeona Sonor Angelo area venues.
The Baptist Church session under Rev. W.P. Jay Rev. Elmer Ridgeway and Jey concluded Sunday evening after eight weeks of progress.
