Social Security Benefits in Brewster County Rise After 1969 Increase
Social security payments to 871 residents of Brewster County totaled 67000 dollars a month as 1969 ended. An increase signed by President Nixon on December 30, 1969 raised the monthly rate by 15 percent for county beneficiaries. Of the 871 recipients, 529 are retired workers or dependents, 245 are survivors of deceased workers, and 80 are disabled or dependents of disabled workers. About a quarter of beneficiaries are under age 60.
