Alpine region readies for lively summer with tournaments and events
In Alpine and the Big Bend area a busy summer awaits. The first NAIA baseball tournament opens at Kobernot Field with teams from across the nation. The Alpine Cowboys host Fort Bliss in a top semi pro schedule. Girl Scouts begin Mitre Peak camping between Alpine and Fort Davis. Sul Ross State College hosts summer classes and workshops including Student Council, Reading Conference, Art Workshop, and Band Clinic. Alpine marks its 75th anniversary with entertainment and the Avalon poetry convention near July end. Guest ranches at Cathedral Mountain Lodge, Prude Ranch, and Los Arboles attract visitors, while UT geology students join Los Arboles for field work. Looks like anything but a dull summer.
