Washington notes that Representative Ken Regan of the 16th district will depart Bethesda Naval Hospital on July 17 after a rapid recovery from yellow jaundice. Doctors advise a 30 day period of rest at home in Midland to recover fully.

Dr. C. E. Hereford of First Baptist Corpus Christi leads a revival at the Alpine Baptist Church starting Sunday. Pastor F. C. Dutton invites Alpine residents to attend daily services at 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. with assurance of spiritual benefit.
Mrs. C. G. Mallouf of Main City California died instantly when her car left U S Highway 90 about 20 miles east of Marathon last Friday morning at 1130 Investigating officers say she fell asleep at the wheel and swerved when attempting to pull back onto the road Her husband riding in front seat suffered a broken shoulder Augustine and Mrs Duran of Las Vegas Nev two back seat passengers were seriously injured including a head injury and a broken back They were treated at a local hospital and later moved to Las Vegas The group was on a vacation trip to Mexico City at the time of the crash.
F L McCollum owner of The Model haberdashery in Alpine and Aubrey Edwards will open a new The Model haberdashery in Big Lake around September 1. Edwards will manage the business.
Mrs. E. R. Hudson sustained facial and arm burns when a gas stove exploded while she lit it last Friday morning. She was not seriously burned and is recovering satisfactorily according to officials.
Byron F Yates 47 of San Antonio former Alpine resident died unexpectedly at Elgin Illinois early Saturday from a heart ailment. He served as a San Antonio school official and educator leader and was president of the San Antonio Teachers council. Survived by widow and two daughters Barbara Morris and Beverly Ann plus brother J E Yates Lubbock. Interment in San Antonio.
George W. McDaniel of the Dallas Morning News met on Sul Ross College campus with Dr. J. B. Speer to gather material for the July 18 Educational Edition. Sul Ross will receive a quarter page feature in a 160,000 copy special edition circulated via Braniff Airways routes to Mexico and beyond.

Tom Wagner of Alpine welcomes daughter Bettye Jane born Tuesday weighing 6 lbs 5 1 2 oz. Jimmie Cooper of Marathon and wife add daughter Betty Lou 8 lbs 8 oz at local hospital. Claude Whitener and spouse announce son James Robert 7 lbs 12 0 oz born Tuesday. Peyton Cain and partner welcome second daughter Jane Stevens born last Thursday weighing 7 lbs 4 oz.
David L. Kokernot elected commander of Big Bend Post No. 79 American Legion at a joint Legion and Auxiliary meeting. New officers include Newsom, Willoughby, Williams, Wade, Fulcher, Fraser, Mosley, Walker, Cain, and others with executive committee selections. Installation planned for August.
Sigman Byrd a Houston writer and former Sul Ross alum visits Alpine for a week off from a new Hollywood producer contract project. He previously wrote a daily column for the Houston Press and has contributed stories to the Saturday Evening Post. His father once supervised Fort Stockton schools.
Mrs. Annie K Turney postmaster announced Alpine post office yearly receipts reached 31818 85 dollars for the year ending June 30, up about 10 percent from the prior 12 months. Each quarter showed a steady rise over the same period last year.
City water users are reminded that the water situation has improved with showers and cool weather but not enough to allow daily lawn and garden watering. Officials repeat the request that no water be used for lawn or garden watering on Tuesdays and Fridays until further notice.
Alpine plans a mail delivery survey led by Post Office Inspector W J Griffis to install improved service including two daily deliveries on weekdays and one on Saturday. The chamber of commerce backs the project as population rises 50 percent since 1940 to about 5750, with postal receipts up nearly 10 percent to 31 818.85.
Maurice T. Bobbitt, candidate for state senator in the 29th district, visited this week to discuss his campaign. He promotes a business man platform and cites two decades of successful business experience as preparation for service in the Texas senate.
The Chisos Mountains in Big Bend Park recorded 5.38 inches of rain from June 26 to early this week, with the Hot Springs Boquillas area receiving a similar amount. A Tuesday shower hit Alpine and Sul Ross College reported 2.9 inches, while a lightning strike damaged a church chimney and other electricals in town.
