The Jersey breed dominates South Texas dairies with high milk output, while Herefords and Holsteins show notable traits. Holsteins are valued for large size and high milk yields with calves weighing 70 to 100 pounds at birth.
A Southwestern Farmer column notes Holstein cows yield about 7000 pounds of milk per year and, with sufficient fodder, deliver strong butterfat, skimmed milk value, and overall beef and veal output. Jersey milk has higher fat percentage but Holsteins remain top producers for modest dairy herds.
The Lubbock Avalanche notes Gov Campbell’s push for an extraordinary session aimed at insurance law repeal or revision. While insurance is cited as the trigger, other vital issues may dominate the agenda, prompting broad public curiosity about forthcoming legislative themes.
Public notice summons numerous heirs and unknown owners in a land dispute. The petition filed May 17, 1910 in District Court Brewster County asks the court to compel appearance at the September 5 1910 term in Alpine to answer a suit by H H Simmons and C A Graham for lands described by the H Hereford survey and other tracts.
Plaintiffs seek title and possession of three parcels in Brewster County Texas involving the A H Wiley survey 1119 acres, S Dunman survey 2969 acres, and an adjoining tract of 2439 acres, all patented to heirs of Sherrod Dunman. Defendants allegedly entered and evicted plaintiffs, withholding possession and causing $15000 damages. A writ of possession and costs, with citation by publication, are prayed. Filed May 19 1910 in Alpine. Flora L Daugherty Clerk.
