The Brewster County Commissioners Court awarded a contract to improve and pave Fort Pena Park Road south of Marathon with costs not to exceed 1350 dollars and start no later than August. The court also approved buying a D 6 tractor from Treanor Equipment Co for 20356.21 after a 8606.21 trade in of the county's old tractor and authorized Sara Pugh to appoint Joyce Hadley as deputy county and district clerk. The panel also approved State Highway 223 improvement work.

L Hopson was named delegation chair for the state convention in Austin July 27 28 29.
Alpine Internationals win 1-0 over Marfa Indians on a first inning RBI by Pete Salgado off Glenn Reyes. Tino Fuentes pitched a two hit shutout through seven, as Frank Hernandez and others contributed, while Salgado and Cordova drove two of four hits for the Ints. Postgame, the team invites a Mexican supper at the Community Center Saturday 5:30 with 75 cents adults and 50 cents children.
William Paul Davis of Alpine joined a group with highest honors in the University of Texas College of Business Administration for the spring semester, according to a release from Austin.
Mr and Mrs E G McGlassen of Wickett visited Mr and Mrs Eric Williams and Mr and Mrs Paul Vogt in Alpine during the July 4 holiday under conditions set by the State Highway Dept on June 26 1962.
U S Army recruiter Sgt Billy G Dart of Pecos will be in Alpine all day on the second and fourth Wednesdays each month at the Selective Service Office from 9 a m to 3 p m for those seeking information about enlisting. Funeral services for Lois Martin McIntyre 62 were held at First Baptist Church with Rev. Streetman and Rev. Newbill officiating. Burial in Elm Grove Cemetery. Survivors include daughter Mrs. Stringfellow and sisters Mrs. Wisely, Mrs. Roe, and Mrs. Kelley with grandsons Chuck Stringfellow III and Mac Stringfellow.

In other news Doug Glasscock son of Mr and Mrs Jim Glasscock sustained severe cuts when a car overturned after striking a gravel pile near Kerrville July 1. He was treated at Peterson Hospital and returned to Alpine. Driver was Douglas Fossler of Kerrville. Alpine Chamber of Commerce lauded the Brewster County Jubilee coverage in the Alpine Avalanche and thanked the paper for aiding mass visitation.
Brewster County marked its Diamond Jubilee on July 4 1962 in Alpine Texas with 2000 residents enjoying booths on the Courthouse lawn. DAR and American Legion Auxiliary manned food flags and crafts while dignitaries spoke and dancing followed a patriotic program led by Mayor Bill Winter.
Charles W. Joe McFarling has been named head coach and athletic director at Alpine High School replacing Dewey M. Baker who becomes Centennial Elementary principal. McFarling, previously first assistant at Falfurrias 13-A, has nine years of coaching across Midway Waco Ogleasby and Sumner ville. His Alpine tenure begins after a notable 1959 8 2 season and district titles at Falfurrias.

Funeral services were held for 9 year old Otis Lynn Rainey who died from a gunshot wound on Wednesday July 4 at his grandparents ranch. He is survived by his parents two brothers and a sister, plus grandparents and extended family. The service was at Marathon Methodist Church with burial at Marathon Cemetery.
