Marathon Fourth of July Celebration at Old Fort Site

About 400 Marathon residents enjoyed a quiet Fourth at the Old Fort Site on the Guy 8 Combs ranch four miles south of town. A large grove, swimming spring Pena Ci, and a well supplied feast of barbecued meat, bread, and homemade cakes drew families to games, music by Juan Pereas Mexican band, and a festive platform for dancing into the evening. Neighbors contributed generously, and the event finished without crowding or haste as people shared food and drink and praised the day.
