Big Bend Park News Highlights Park Staff and Visitors
Big Bend park staff work on Route 9 low water crossings with contractor Ralph Coe moving into a construction camp. New seasonal workers arrive including Bobby and Mary Jane Little and daughter Arlene from Tyler, Texas. Cruz B. Cordova of Marathon and James H. Wheiles of Odessa join as temporary carpenters. The Gossmans relocate to larger quarters as Dorothy’s parents visit from Minneapolis, and Mrs. Billie Jolly with daughter Donna visit from El Reno to see Cecil Garretts. A hamburger cookout for National Park Concessions staff is hosted by Margo and Charley Blakey, with a Basin Sunday School choir later. Ranger Bob Dunagan conducts a float trip patrol through Santa Elena Canyon. First Ursuline Academy in Galveston was established in 1847.
