Alpine observers reported a brief glimpse of Halley’s Comet Thursday evening soon after sunset. The comet appeared low on the western horizon, eight degrees of tail length visible, near Venus, with visibility continuing for weeks as it moves away from the sun.

John Young of Alpine with Tom Coleman and Dave Wood ward pursue a mobile quarry near Alpine to supply stone for State houses palatial residences and tomb stones. Livestock interests he reports are in good shape and cattlemen are prosperous and contented like others on the continent.
