Aftermath of Rubella Epidemic Spurs Bellevue Early Education Program
The March of Dimes funded a New York University Bellevue Hospital study of 500 children injured by the 1964-65 rubella outbreak. It found many have brain damage, hearing loss, heart disease or visual problems and need an umbrella of physical, emotional and educational care. A preschool program started in October 1967 at Bellevue uses individualized instruction with teachers from special education and a music therapist to aid development.
